SNAP - Spay\Neuter Assistance Program

How ABC can help

Animal Birth Control strives to offer affordable spay\neuter surgeries to all pet owners requesting assistance.  Pet owners will be asked to make a co-pay in an amount that is affordable to them, and then ABC will cover the balance.

Our ability to help varies with our available funding.

Who is eligible?

We try to help everyone who asks for assistance.  However, we will only grant funds to individuals, and only for their household pets or for feral cats.  Also, all dogs\cats in the household must be sterilized, or there must be a plan in place to accomplish that.

Also, the surgery must be performed by one our participating vet clinics, which are located in eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois.  Pet owners willing to drive to these locations are eligible, contact us for specifics.

When ABC began, we focused on helping the elderly and low-income pet owners.  But we have come to realize that the need for assistance spans all income groups.  Especially during tough economic times, everyone needs to tighten their budgets and that often means putting off fixing their pets.  ABC targets pet owners that, without our assistance, would postpone fixing their pet.   Delays result in pregnancies. Call us now, we want to help -- now.

How do I apply for assistance?

Click here where you will be sent to our "To Request Assistance" page.  From there you will be given a variety of options (email, snail mail, telephone) as to how to submit your request for assistance.

If you just have questions, click here to be directed to our "Contact Us" page.

    Costs NOT Covered by ABC

(All costs should be confirmed with the clinic at the time you make the appointment)

    Vaccinations

Per Iowa law, animals under veterinary care must be up to date on their required vaccinations, and ABC is not in a position to pay for those – shots can be administered at the time of the surgery, but they will be entirely the financial responsibility of the pet owner.  If your pet's shots were administered by another vet, you will need to show proof of vaccination on the day of your appointment.

    •  Dogs (Rabies, distemper, kennel cough) = $36
    •  Cats (Rabies, distemper) = $24

For our Illinois clinics -- call for details.

ABC will only assist with expenses directly related to the spay\neuter surgery.

    Average Co-pay amounts

Please call or email us for more information about the co-pay amounts.   Because this amount varies so much from case to case, and depending on our available funding, we just find it impossible to give any estimate.

So please, just call or email us for more information.  We will work with you to arrive at a co-pay that is affordable for you.
